Swine Flu is new threat to Pakistan

As most of people today are acknowledged by the Media about the New Threat to whole World, i.e Swine Flu. Watching news we always notice that its spreading very rapidly around different Countries and around 19 people died in neighbour INDIA. A news alert for Pakistanis is that there are no prevention measures took by Pakistani Govvernment about this and there are nothing done on Airports to check the incoming Swine Flu Infected persons. That makes it for us a biggest threat and therefore I thought to write about it because we should be carefull. If we know about it and know how to be safe from it then we can prevent ourselves and tell others too..

Pakistan Swine Flu is an attempt to bring all the necessary information in one place. Pakistan cannot afford to fall sick. Keep yourself and others informed.

What is Swine Flu?

Swine flu is the common name given to a new strain of influenza (flu). It is called swine flu because it is thought to have originated in pigs, but this is not certain.
The most common symptoms are a fever, sore throat, diarrhoea, headache, feeling generally unwell and a dry cough. In other words, the symptoms are very similar to seasonal (regular) flu. Most people recover within a week, even without special treatment.

another information about what is Swine Flu..??

Swine influenza (also called H1N1 flu, swine flu, hog flu, and pig flu) is an infection by any one of several types of swine influenza virus. Swine influenza virus (SIV) is any strain of the influenza family of viruses that is endemic in pigs.[2] As of 2009, the known SIV strains include influenza C and the subtypes of influenza A known as H1N1, H1N2, H3N1, H3N2, and H2N3.
Swine influenza virus is common throughout pig populations worldwide. Transmission of the virus from pigs to humans is not common and does not always lead to
human influenza, often resulting only in the production of antibodies in the blood. If transmission does cause human influenza, it is called zoonotic swine flu. People with regular exposure to pigs are at increased risk of swine flu infection. The meat of an infected animal poses no risk of infection when properly cooked.

Info About Swine Flu/ History of Swine Flu/ Pandemic
Reference.. http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/Pandemic-flu/Pages/Introduction.aspx

The virus was first identified in Mexico in April 2009. It has since become a pandemic, which means it has spread around the globe. It has spread quickly because it is a new type of flu virus that few, if any, people have full resistance to.
Flu pandemics are a natural event that occur from time to time. Last century, there were flu pandemics in 1918, 1957 and 1968, when millions of people died across the world.
In most cases the virus has proved relatively mild. However, around the world more than 1,700 people have died and it is not yet clear how big a risk the virus is. For this reason, and because all viruses can mutate to become more potent (stronger), scientists are saying we need to be careful.

High-risk groups

Some people are more at risk of complications if they catch swine flu, and need to start taking antivirals as soon as it is confirmed that they have the illness. Doctors may advise some high-risk patients to take antivirals before they have symptoms, if someone close to them has swine flu.
It is already known that people are particularly vulnerable if they have:
--chronic (long-term) lung disease,
--chronic heart disease,
--chronic kidney disease,
--chronic liver disease,
--chronic neurological disease (neurological disorders include motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease),
--immunosuppression (whether caused by disease or treatment), or
diabetes mellitus.
Also at risk are:
--patients who have had drug treatment for asthma in the past three years,
--pregnant women,
--people aged 65 and over, and
--children under five.

Prevention Methods from Swine Flu / To stop the virus spreading

1-To reduce the risk of catching or spreading the virus you should:
---cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, using a tissue
---throw the tissue away quickly and carefully
---wash your hands regularly with soap and water
---clean hard surfaces (like door handles and remote controls) frequently with a normal cleaning product.

2-The most important way is to have good respiratory and hand hygiene. In other words, always sneeze in to a tissue, and quickly put it in a bin. Wash your hands and home and work surfaces regularly and thoroughly to kill the virus.

Vaccination for Swine Flu/ Treatment os Swine Flu
Reference.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swine_influenza#Treatment

If a person becomes sick with swine flu, antiviral drugs can make the illness milder and make the patient feel better faster. They may also prevent serious flu complications. For treatment, antiviral drugs work best if started soon after getting sick (within 2 days of symptoms)

A bad news to hear is that its Vaccination is invented but it will be available to market in October and will be available to only highly influenced groups.
